Hello Kickers, your executive would like to remind you that as of Monday, July 30th, the fields at Lake trail Middle School will be used by the Women’s and Junior Teams for practice. Those wishing to come out for a game of touchies on Thursday, August 2nd, will meet at the clubhouse. The field there is ready for use and hopefully there will be some social time after the last touch rugby session before training for the fall season starts in full. Men’s senior practice sessions will start Tuesday, August 7th and we are hoping to get access to the Cumberland Village fields so as to be able to practice in a full field. The Kickers RFC will begin training training for all Fall 2012 leagues in the next coming weeks. MEN: begin training Tuesday August 7th at the Fall Alders training field and will continue to run Tuesday’s and Thursday’s at 6:30. First scrimmage against Nanaimo Hornets September 8th, league games begin September 16th. WOMEN: begin Training Monday July 30th at Lower Lake Trail and will continue to run Monday’s and Thursday’s at 6:30. First league game is September 8th against Nanaimo Hornets at home. The Comox Valley Kickers RFC recently held their Annual General Meeting at the Fallen Alders Community Hall in Royston, the location of their current clubhouse. President Andrew Eaton applauded the Kickers Mens and those Kickers Women who played for both the Kickers and Nanaimo on a job well done. He also thanked the executive, spouses and partners for their ongoing hard work and devotion to the club. The future looks bright for the Kickers. An element of note was that a new disciplinary process was ratified by the members. The newly elected executive consists of: President - Andy Eaton VP - Shayne Stuchberry Secretary - Anita Holland Treasurer - Ona Thorington Director of Socials & Fundraising - Steve Hextal Diirector of Sponsorships - Eli Cummins Clubhouse Manager - Roc LaFort. A wonderful meal was prepared by Shayne & Andrea of Coastal Trek Health & Fitness Resort and Konrad Nikkel, which was enjoyed by all. Annual award winners were announced next and all were well deserved. In last weekend’s match against the Powell River Otagos, the younger members of the AFC Comox Valley Kickers shone in a win that put the club back on track after two recent losses. The club had traveled to Victoria the past two weekends losing 32-28 to the Castaway-Wanderers and 35-7 to the Velox-Valhallians, but the win over Powell River leaves the Kickers in second place in the standings with two weeks to prepare for the playoffs. They will face Cowichan at Cumberland’s Village park on April 8th @ 1p.m. This spring season has seen an influx of eager young players to the club, some of them like eighteen year-old Vince Bennett, still a student at Mark Isfeld school, electrified the crowd with a hat-trick of tries against the Powell River visitors on Sunday. Bennett who stands 6’ 2” and weights 215 pounds, plays #8 for his school team and lock for the Kickers, and when he gets the ball in hand and works up a head of steam he is difficult man to stop. His sidesteps and jinks would make any back-fielder proud. “ I love running with the ball in hand,” comments the talented youngster who looks forward to his second game of the week playing for his school side on Thursday. Nineteen year-old Curtis Parker graduated from Isfeld last year and can play anywhere in the backs. Though he has only been playing the game for a couple of years, he enjoys the contact and running with the ball in hand. He has notched a couple of tries this Spring season and is looking more...
