Mark February 6 and February 12 in your calendar! SUPER BOWL SUNDAY AT THE CLUBHOUSE Super Bowl Sunday kicks off on February 6 at 3 p.m. at the clubhouse with food, drinks and a chance to make “big” money if you select the correct quarter-, half- and full-time scores. Bring your friends to the newly renovated clubhouse for a fun-filled afternoon of the game the Americans stole from rugby because they couldn’t figure out how to play our game properly. The Men’s team have a bye that weekend so we expect everyone will be looking for something to do to fill in the vacancy. Come on down!! PROCRASTINATORS CHRISTMAS PARTY After being postponed a number of times, the club’s Procrastinators Christmas Party is set for Saturday February 12 at 7 p.m. in the clubhouse. This is a “smart casual” event for members, family and friends and for our Fallen Alders’ neighbours. Club’s chefs will be serving hors d‘oeuvres and delicious nibblies all night long — all cooked in our newly renovated kitchen. A $10 cover charge/person will cover all you can eat and will give you a chance to win an expensive door-prize. Last year John Waters and his wife won a two-night stay at a Tofino resort. Everyone is asked to bring a “cheap, cheerful and humorous” Christmas gift, worth not more than $5. The giving and opening of these will add to the fun. Last year we hosted a very successful TAPAS NIGHT – our first event in the clubhouse – this PROCRASTINATORS CHRISTMAS PARTY is the follow-up to that event and will give us a chance...

The first annual Beaufort Cup club challenge between the Kickers and Port Alberni Black Sheep has been postponed due to unforeseen problems. Kickers Director of Rugby, Colin Chappell, who was a force in organizing the event says that the event will be re-scheduled to a time when both clubs are available to play and can fit it into their schedules. “This is too important and too logical an event to not be kept in focus,” said Chappell. “Having to change the date is just a glitch that has occurred in the middle of winter and having to change the time of the event is not a big deal. The Black Sheep are still very much on board, but this time frame just didn’t work particularly well for them.” The Beaufort Cup will pit all of the teams from the Kickers and the Black Sheep against one another playing in a winner take all total points arrangement. In lieu of the Beaufort Cup match, Kicker players, both men and women, are meeting at the Fallen Alders at noon on Sunday to play an inter-club game and to watch the NFL Playoff games later in the...

Fancy coaching? Local school rugby programs, the lifeblood of the Kickers, are looking for knowledgeable rugby coaches to assist them with their rugby programs. “These programs are the supply line to Kickers Rugby,” says Kickers Director of Rugby Colin Chappell. “Some Kickers are already helping with a variety of programs, however more assistance would be a great benefit not just to the schools, but to the club as well, because players from these school programs supply the talent that keeps the Kickers going.” This year the Kickers R.F.C. will begin an U-14 and an U-15 program starting March 3rd, and in the Fall the club will have a U-15 program, an U-17 and an U-19 program. Colin Tinga at Higland High School is hoping to start a rugby program beginning with a Junior and a Senior team playing exhibition games. He would be delighted to have some help. Highland used to have a vibrant rugby program for many years but for the past few years there has not been one there and it would be terrific to see that program resurrected. If you would like to help with the Highland program or indeed with any school rugby program please talk to Kickers Director of Rugby, Colin Chappell –(W) 250-334-1882 or on his cell: 250 -207-1125. or by e-mail: chappell.cd@gmail.com or at the clubhouse after training and games. ...

Kickers Director of Rugby Colin Chappell, announces an exciting new initiative, the Beaufort Cup Challenge, between the Kickers and the Port Alberni Black Sheep. This game will mark the first time that members of the Kicker’s Junior programs, begun in 2007, will turn out in a Senior game. Next at 12.45 p.m. the Kicker Women take on the Black Sheep Women in a 25-minute-per-half game. At 1.45 p.m. the Senior Men take on the Port Alberni’s Senior Men in a 30 minute half affair. When all the games are completed the officials will add up the total number of points per club and award the Beaufort Cup, symbolic of the Mountain Range that lies between the homes of the two rugby clubs. “This idea came about to form closer ties between the two North Vancouver Island clubs that have a geographical link in that they lie on opposite sides of the Beaufort Mountains....
