Hello current and past Comox Valley Kickers members, The Comox Valley Kickers Men’s Team are starting their Spring 2015 Season training and we would like to invite you out for a run. Training will be held on Thursdays at 6:30pm, and we will be starting this Thursday with a friendly game of touch followed by drinks in the club house. For those in a less competitive mode either due to life, family, or injury please come out this or any Thursday after practice for a drink. Practice usually ends around 7:30ish. Hello Kickers, The Victoria International Sevens is scheduled for Saturday Sept. 7th. It will be an 8-team event with the following teams involved: Crimson Tide Langara Lodge Selects Canada (2 teams) Old Puget Sound Beach – USA USA Falcons Edmonton Elite – Lionheart Barbados National Teams [important]Note that Canada has 2 teams. If not playing for Canada players will be needed for the eighth team, the Crimson Tide team. This will be a good opportunity for strong Island sevens players not already known by Rugby Canada to be seen.[/important] This is a great tournament to play in, with $10,000 in prize money up for grabs and, as mentioned, Rugby Canada will be there for selection purposes! Note also that they may also be looking for a coach if Jeff Williams is unavailable and any recommendations there would be appreciated. [notice] When: Mondays and Thursdays, 6:30pm Where: Lake Trail School (Lower Fields) Who: Men and Women of all experience levels welcome Ages: 14+ [/notice] ________________________________________________________________ Quick Version of the Rules: 6 on 6 with at least one female player on the field for each team. Play starts with a TAP at dead center field. Defense back 10M. TAGS can be made with as little as one finger anywhere on the ball carrier including the ball or the carriers clothing. A TAG creates a MARK on the field. The ball carrier must perform a ROLL BALL on the MARK, failure to do so is a turnover. The defense must retreat 5M from the MARK before attacking the ball. The DUMMY HALF must play the ball from the MARK with no delay on a tag. If the DUMMY HALF is tagged possession is turned over. Your team turns the ball over on the 6th TAG. ROUGH TAGS are a penalty. Penalties are started with a TAP, defense back 10M. If you are tagged and then pass the ball it is called a TOUCH PASS and your team turns over possession of the ball. You cannot smack the ball out of the carrier’s hands. ________________________________________________________________ [important] Games will have a referee/coach to help players get a good grasp of the rules and understand the game of Touch Rugby. On Saturday, 18 May, the Comox valley Kickers will look to their over-35 players to run out against the Nanaimo Hornets as part of Cumberland Market Day. Kickoff is at Cumberland Village Park at 1pm.
