The Comox Valley Kickers Rugby Football Club has officially unveiled its new Executive Committee for the 2026/2027 season. Following a successful 2025/2026 season, which saw both the men’s and women’s teams compete in Division 1, the club is now looking ahead with even greater ambition.
At the recent Annual General Meeting held on Tuesday, March 23, at the Comox Community Centre, club members gathered to reflect on the accomplishments of the past year and elect the new leadership that will carry the torch forward. With an invigorating mix of returning leaders and fresh faces, the Kickers Executive is well-poised to steer the club toward continued growth, strengthened community engagement, and, of course, great rugby!
Introducing the 2026/2027 Kickers Executive Committee
President – Jesse Ramsay
Jesse is in his second year in the President role, and is no stranger to the Executive, previously serving as the Director of Rugby Operations, and continues to lace up his boots as an active player. Jesse brings an in-depth understanding of the club’s values, operations, and ambitions. He says, “I’m excited to keep the momentum going and help lead the club into its next chapter.”
Vice-President – Jessica Leck
Jessica returns to the role of Vice-President, bringing consistency and continued collaboration to the Executive team. Known for her can-do attitude and commitment to fostering a positive club environment, Jessica has been instrumental in supporting all areas of club operations. Whether it’s helping plan events, assisting with logistics, or stepping up wherever needed, she continues to be a reliable and enthusiastic leader. “I’m proud to be part of such a passionate group,” Jessica said. “There’s so much potential in this club, and I’m excited to help us keep building on it.”
Secretary – Stephen Hextall
Stephen returns as Secretary for another season, bringing a sharp eye for detail and a strong sense of structure to the Executive team. Over the past year, he has continued to ensure the club’s governance remains clear and current. With a professional background in government work, Stephen is exceptionally well-suited for the role, combining policy expertise with a deep commitment to the club. His thoughtful approach helps keep the Executive organized and accountable as the Kickers continue to grow.
Treasurer – JP Lussier
JP brings a strong financial background to the role of Treasurer, making him a valuable asset to the club. No stranger to the Kickers, JP previously served as the women’s coach for five years, where he helped develop a competitive and connected team culture. His combined experience in finance and rugby gives him a unique perspective on the club’s needs, both on and off the field. JP is passionate about ensuring the Kickers remain financially strong while continuing to provide accessible rugby opportunities for all members.
Director of Rugby Operations – Jess Nikkel
Jess returns to the role of Director of Rugby Operations for her second year after previously serving as the Director of Sponsorships. The role continues to be a natural fit, as she took on the role of women’s team manager during the 2024/2025 season while sidelined with an injury. Her experience managing team logistics, supporting players, and staying deeply involved from the sidelines has given her a clear understanding of what’s needed to keep rugby operations running smoothly.
Director of Socials & Fundraising – Derek McCubbin
Derek joins the Executive Committee as the new Director of Socials & Fundraising, taking over from Natalie Nguyen as she prepares to welcome her second child. Derek is looking forward to getting more involved and helping to create enjoyable social events and successful fundraising initiatives throughout the season. Derek has spearheaded the Kickers participation in the Partners for Life program with Canadian Blood Services and is excited to build on that success and explore additional community-focused initiatives that allow our members to make a positive impact both on and off the field.
Director of Sponsorships – Andy Hextall
Andy joins the Executive as Director of Sponsorships, bringing with him a deep history and unwavering commitment to the club. A long-time supporter and player, Andy is focused on strengthening relationships with existing sponsors and building new partnerships for the 2026/2027 season. “Sponsoring the Kickers is a great way for businesses to give back, build brand awareness, and become part of something special.”
An Open Invitation to Help
As the club continues to grow, the Executive is also welcoming expressions of interest from those who would like to get involved in sub-committees. From exploring opportunities such as a permanent clubhouse and improved field facilities (long-term planning) to organizing events, posting on social media or grant writing; there is room for everyone to contribute.
“No effort is too small,” Jesse emphasized. “This club can only grow because of its volunteers—people who give their time, energy, and heart.”
Looking Ahead
With a strong Executive team in place and a solid foundation built over the 2025/2026 season, the Comox Valley Kickers are setting their sights on even bigger goals for the year ahead. The club hopes to grow its membership, strengthen its presence in the community, and foster a culture of teamwork and shared success. The momentum is building, and with the support of members, volunteers, and the wider community, the Kickers are ready to take the next steps forward.
