Fourth Annual Co-Ed Touch Rugby Tournament Returns to Lewis Park

Jul 22, 2026

You are invited to lace up your cleats for one of the Comox Valley’s fastest-growing summer sporting traditions.

The Comox Valley Kickers RFC will host its Fourth Annual Co-Ed Touch Rugby Tournament on Saturday, August 22 at Lewis Park, bringing together teams and individual players from across Vancouver Island and beyond for a full day of friendly competition.

The annual event has steadily grown since its inaugural tournament, attracting returning clubs and newcomers alike while showcasing the inclusive side of rugby. This year’s tournament is already shaping up, with teams from Campbell River and Powell River already confirmed to compete.

Unlike traditional rugby, touch rugby replaces tackling with a simple touch, making it a fast-paced, non-contact version of the game that’s accessible to players of all experience levels. Whether participants have years of rugby experience or are stepping onto the field for the first time, the tournament is designed to emphasize teamwork, sportsmanship and fun.

One of the tournament’s biggest draws is its format. Individuals don’t need to register with a full team to participate—single players are encouraged to sign up and will be placed on a team, making the event an ideal opportunity for anyone wishing to try the sport, reconnect with rugby, or meet other players from around the region. Registration closes at midnight on Friday, August 14. The cost is $200/team (maximum of 10 players) or $25/single. Register by e-transferring to cvkickers@gmail.com.

Teams will compete throughout the day in a round-robin format before battling for tournament honours. Off the field, spectators can enjoy a lively atmosphere complete with a beer garden, merchandise sales, and the opportunity to cheer on local athletes while supporting community rugby. The event also serves as an important fundraiser for the Comox Valley Kickers Rugby Football Club, helping offset equipment and travel costs for the upcoming season.

For those looking to sharpen their skills before tournament day—or simply give the sport a try—the Comox Valley Kickers are also hosting Co-Ed Touch Rugby drop-in sessions every Tuesday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at Woodcote Park throughout the summer. The sessions are open to players of all experience levels, offering a fun and welcoming environment to learn the game, stay active, and meet members of the local rugby community. The final drop-in session of the season will take place on Tuesday, September 1.
