Rugby Rascals Jamboree in Nanaimo Features More Than 120 Players!

What a day we had in Nanaimo! Six U11 teams (Castaways-Victoria, Velox-Victoria, Cowichan, Nanaimo, Campbell River and the Comox Valley Kickers) + 4 U13 + 4U9 teams (our U9 player hooked-up with Cowichan for his first rugby game) =130 players with 5 separate games being played at any one time!  All our kids played with heart. This was our second game of contact as a club and the first game for 5 of our new players. Everyone did well but a special congratulation to those first time players who matched our overall commitment and enthusiasm. We learned a lot yesterday and still had fun.  Thanks to all the parents who made the trip and supported their player, to Ona Thorington who kept things rolling as well as everyone else who lent a helping hand. Special thanks to Melissa McLachlan for the pics which are posted on our Facebook page at:  https://www.facebook.com/pages/Comox-Valley-Rugby-Rascals/261788750608920 A reminder that this Wednesday’s practice is at 5:00 PM @ Fallen Alders Hall on Royston Road with our Sunday practice scheduled for 1:00 PM @ Comox Recreation Centre. Next jamboree: Cowichan will host at Shawnigan Lake April 7th at 10:00 AM instead of at Cowichan on March 24th (Spring Break). This means a long day for ourselves and CR however it promises to be a festive occasion held on the same pitch as Canada has played on in past years, plus our attendance increases the probability of Victoria teams coming here in succeeding years....

Rugby Rascals – Join our Jamborees!

Rugby is an amazing sport. It builds positive, strong attributes on a variety of levels. It promotes, first and foremost, team play. There are 15 players on the field, working towards a shared goal and supporting each other every step of the way. All things that benefit our little growing  stars a.k.a. the Comox Valley Rugby Rascals.   [important]Current Training Schedule[/important] Location: Lower Lake Trail Field, Courtenay B.C. PLAYOFFS PROVE TOO BIG A LEAP FOR THE KICKERS

PLAYOFFS PROVE TOO BIG A LEAP FOR THE KICKERS

Just as in hockey, so in rugby, playoff games require a different standard of play than regular season league play. On Sunday at Cumberland’s Village Park the A.F.C. Construction Comox Valley Kickers, wearing their brand new A.F.C. jerseys, learned that lesson to their peril, going down 16-12 to the Cowichan Piggies. It was a game the Kickers could well have won but indiscipline, a lack of leadership and rushes of blood to the head at the wrong times, lost them the match. Both teams realized the importance of the game at the outset, knowing that this “one-off” game meant an early summer or a move on to the next stages of the playoffs. With that in mind the game possessed a “nice bit of bite” in the early going, that could either boil over into an ill tempered affair, if not contained, or could have resulted in a really stirring contest. Unfortunately, the referee did not put his stamp on the game early enough allowing the often chippy, niggly play to continue, which led to the match digressing into a badly behaved contest that proved little fun for the crowd to watch and the players to play in. Eventually three players went to the sin bin, but that proved too little and too late to control the game. The Kickers defended well in the early going with Cowichan in the ascendency, but after keeping the visiting Piggies at bay for some time, Kim Anderton forced his way over the Kicker’s try line to put the visitors up 5-0. Soon after, with the Kickers having trouble getting out of their...
