Suspension of Sanctioned Rugby Activities Continues Indefinitely

“With the continued uncertainty of this global pandemic, Rugby Canada will continue its suspension of all sanctioned rugby activities. We continue to support the directives of our National and Provincial health authorities in doing all we can to halt the spread of the COVID-19 virus.” Allen Vansen CEO, Rugby Canada The following is an updated statement from Rugby Canada, regarding the continued impact of COVID-19 on rugby programming across our country: As we all continue to navigate this unprecedented situation, Rugby Canada remains first and foremost committed to the health and safety of our members, supporters, players, coaches, officials and staff. In keeping with this commitment, and in conjunction with our Provincial member Unions and Board of Directors, Rugby Canada has made the decision to extend the suspension of all sanctioned national rugby activities indefinitely. These activities include all in-person registered participant team training sessions, all in-person match official and coach training/education courses and all inter-provincial, club, domestic and international matches and tours. National Senior Teams & players may conduct some training preparation under the approval and supervision of Rugby Canada’s Chief Medical Officer, subject to the ongoing guidance of the Sport Medicine Advisory Committee and National and Provincial health agencies. At this time, the Rugby Canada Victoria office, Al Charron Training Centre and Vancouver office remain closed with staff working from home. Due to the constant evolution of the pandemic, the suspension of activities will be re-evaluated by Rugby Canada management as required over the coming weeks. Hello Kickers, The Victoria International Sevens is scheduled for Saturday Sept. 7th. It will be an 8-team event with the following teams involved: Crimson Tide Langara Lodge Selects Canada (2 teams) Old Puget Sound Beach – USA USA Falcons Edmonton Elite – Lionheart Barbados National Teams [important]Note that Canada has 2 teams. If not playing for Canada players will be needed for the eighth team, the Crimson Tide team. This will be a good opportunity for strong Island sevens players not already known by Rugby Canada to be seen.[/important] This is a great tournament to play in, with $10,000 in prize money up for grabs and, as mentioned, Rugby Canada will be there for selection purposes! BC U20 Women’s Provincial Team Second Open Camp Set for April 21st

VANCOUVER, BC - BC Rugby’s U20 women’s provincial team program will be holding their second open trial of the 2013 season on April 21st at UBC’s Wolfson Fields. The first open session was held in conjunction with BC’s senior women’s program and featured 50+ athletes in attendance. The U20 team is currently in preparation for the upcoming summer season where BC plans to compete at the National Women’s League Finals in Vancouver. As you may already be aware Rugby Canada will be hosting the upcoming National University 7s Championship at Westhills Stadium on March 1st and 2nd, 2013. The Championship provides an ideal platform for National Sevens selection and talent assessment, drawing top University Sevens players from across the country.
