Cleanup instead of practice + New Year’s reminder

Hey Everyone, we are planning a cleanup tonight instead of practice.   We had a big flood last week in the basement after the heavy rains. the basement is all dry now thanks to the help of a number of players and Colin bringing in some dehumidifiers.   We are planning a New Years Party tomorrow night for club members and friends. You can bring your own drinks and we ask that you bring some sort of appy.   Don't forget the following morning (Jan 1st) is the Toilet Bowl (Over 30's vs Under 30's game) meet at the club house for 11am....

“HOW HIGH’S THE WATER MAMA?”

Report by Ian Kennedy. Over the past few weeks a determined band of club members have been working to finish the Fallen Alders clubhouse and, with the job nearly complete the rains came. On December 23 Leigh Burley arrived at the clubhouse with some counter tops for the kitchen to discover that some water trickling into the clubhouse. A bit later, when Colin Chappell arrived the water had begun to rise so he contacted Colby Craven of Fallen Alder. Leigh then called Kickers President Greg Merchant and a few others and they began hand-digging ditches to try and divert water away from the building. By now water was running in sheets off the training field, across the parking lot and down into the clubhouse doorway. As well, water was running down the back of the building and in through the back door. Leigh, Greg and a few others kept digging in the downpour until about 11 p.m. and they seemed to have diverted most of the water away from the building. On Christmas Eve morning Colby arrived with her dad John and a few  Fallen Alders neighbours to find that water lay six to eight inches deep in the clubrooms and had reached the top of the new baseboards at the bottom of the freshly attached and painted gyprock. They immediately went to Central Builders to get as many pumps as they could from Colin Chappell, who manages Central Builders Rental Division.   British Columbia Rugby Union – BC players headline: Canada U-17 roster announcement Rugby Canada has announced the touring squad for the Canadian Men’s Under-17 Team that will travel to Santa Barbara, California for a two-game series against the USA High SchoolAll-Americans. Of the 28 players named to the roster, 17 are from British Columbia and compete in the local club leagues.  TOUR SCHEDULE Dec. 29 vs USA High School All-Americans (UC Santa Barbara, CA) Dec. 31 vs USA High School All-Americans (UC Santa Barbara, CA) DECEMBER TOUR INFO Seen as a crucial step on the high performance pathway to the national team, these players have undergone several selection camps to crack the roster for December’s tour. The end-goal of the Under-17 setup is to send a competitive side to the Wellington Festival in UK next March to compete in a high-pressure environment against other national squads.  All 17 of the B.C. players selected for the Santa Barbara tour have represented their province at the Under-16 level. Comox Valley’s Connor Willis and Abbotsford’s Jorden Best are two of the more experienced players who have represented B.C. at two national championships.  “The inclusion of the players from BC is a very good indication of the quality of programming within our clubs and schools and also reflects well on our regional and provincial structures,” said Dave Brown, BC’s Provincial Coach and Development Manager. “The National Under-17 program allows players to get further development in all aspects of the game and it is closely aligned with the Regional Academy Programs.
